Materials
Traditionally made in hardwood and usually oak, these days bellframes
are more usually made in fabricated steel or cast-iron. We build bellframes
in all three materials and our specifications ALWAYS include hot-dip galvanizing
all steelwork after which all is etch-primed and enamelled. Some competitors
offer ungalvanized steel in their bellframes though we believe this to
be a great mistake as, although it offers a considerable cost saving,
the durability of ungalvanized steel can be very limited. Galvanizing,
etch-priming and enamelling is not cheap, though we are confident that
our bellframes are the finest available. When designing a new bellframe
the starting point must always be the tower structure and any weaknesses
and peculiarities are fully taken into account.
Considerations
Careful attention is given to the layout such that the dynamic loadings
are distributed to the tower walls in the most advantageous way. Likewise,
careful consideration is paid to the roping of the bells so that any drawing
of the ropes is kept to the absolute minimum whilst producing the best
possible circle for the benefit of the ringers. Internal and external
acoustics must also be properly considered. Only when all relevant factors
have been dealt with is a final design produced. Our bellframes are always
massively constructed and fully cross-braced throughout and are designed
for a long and trouble free life with the minimum of maintenance.
Our highly skilled installation
teams are able to erect our bellframes with the absolute minimum of disruption
or inconvenience. Clients often express their amazement that following
the unloading and erection of perhaps 5 tonnes or more of bellframe and
bells, only a few days later they would never have known we had been present.
